Proof of Identity for a UK Passport
In the case of a standard British Passport renewal, your old/ expired (most recently issued) British Passport can serve as proof of identity.
If you are applying for a British passport for the first time, you will be required to submit additional supporting documents.
Here is a list of the requirements for a standard British Passport renewal:
- Before the new passport will be delivered, the old one must be cancelled by sending it to the passport office. A valid or expired passport is required, but it must be the one that has been issued most recently.
- Any other uncancelled non-British passport, provided it is held by the applicant. The United Kingdom allows dual citizenship.
- In the event of a name change, an original official name change document from the relevant government department (or deed poll) is required. This documents are required if you now use a different name/surname to the one on your current/most recently issued passport. Sometimes the applicant will also need additional documents to support the name change. Our consultants will ensure that you have everything you need for your specific situation.
Each new passport application is unique, with varying criteria; therefore, when submitting a completed application form, an applicant will be informed of the documents that will be required.
Here is a list of the potential requirements for a first-time British Passport application:
- Applicant’s original full birth or naturalisation certificate
- Applicant’s current passport or an Identity Document or driver’s license. This will be accepted as long as the applicant’s details and photograph are on the document.
