Indian Tourists Can Visit Russia Without a Visa Starting 2025

Indian Tourists passport holders may soon be able to travel to Russia without needing a tourist visa. A bilateral agreement between Russia and India aims to introduce visa-free group tours as early as spring 2025. This move is expected to deepen tourism ties between the two nations.

Since August 2023, Indian travelers are already eligible for Russian e-visas, which are typically approved within four days. In May, Nikita Kondratyev, a senior official from Russia’s Economic Development Ministry, confirmed that India is in the final stages of coordinating this visa-free initiative.

Discussions between officials in Russia and India began mid-year to lay the groundwork for this agreement. The plan is to allow group tourists from India easier access to explore the country without extensive paperwork or delays.

Interest from Indian travelers in Russia has grown steadily in the past few years. Reports show that over 60,000 Indian tourists visited Moscow in 2023, marking significant growth from previous years. The 60-day visa exemption for Indian passport holders traveling for tourism and short business purposes will remain in place. However, for other visa categories, applicants will need to submit their requests exclusively through the official website designated by the Thai Embassy.

The new e-visas are expected to be processed within 14 working days. Travelers must note that visa fees will apply, and these fees are non-refundable under all circumstances. While the specific details regarding payment and fees are yet to be announced, the Embassy confirmed that both online and offline payment options will be available.
